We are a British family of four (43, 41, 13 and 11).
In late 2016 we adventured around India and South East Asia for 4 months.
Travelling long distances by train, bus and boat was a big adventure in itself as was cycling or catching local public transport such as metros and particularly buses.

We have tried activities with our children that we wouldn’t have thought of doing if travelling on our own. Water parks were a particular joy as were balance board go carts.
There are many activities you can go on with children and much money you can spend if you have a large budget. We had a budget of £100 per day to include accomodation, food, transport and activities. We balanced ‘free activities’ with a handful of well chosen more pricey options.
We also spend 21 days couchsurfing, again it was certainly a significant part of the adventure.
We’d highly recommend trying CS out as you travel. Each host is very different and you need an open mind. We discovered that our 40+ year old bones didn’t sleep comfortably on a hard floor so only managed two nights on the English School Floor in Ho Chi Minh City, for example.
If we couldn’t find a host or didn’t want one in a particular location then hostels often had 4-person rooms and even shared dormitories worked for us too.
I’m very happy to share our experiences with other families on the road or looking to go on an adventure together.
