Having managed a good night’s sleep (I’ve not been rocked to sleep for a long time) our train arrived in Udaipur. Udaipur sits on the banks of lake pichola. The setting is spectacular, complete with palaces both on the hillside and on the lake. Our accommodation for the next four nights is the Jheel guest house, which sits right on the lakeside. Having just been (and still undergoing) renovation our rooms feel very much in the classical Indian style ) not that I really know what that is.

This is just down the stream from Gangaur Ghat which is the main place for worshippers to gather who wanting to take the waters.

The town is very welcoming of tourists and restaurants will take any appropriate measures to encourage them in:

In fact Octopussy is on offer at at least five restaurants that we have passed. There is even a vintage car museum where you can see the car from the film (though I reckon that that was a Tuktuk). Why the Octopussy obsession? It turns out that the film was made here making use of the lake palace

And the city palace.
